Post op Rehabilitation/ Pre-op rehabilitation

Pre-Op:

Surgery is generally the final step in any problem and is only undertaken when more conservative measures such as physiotherapy have failed to produce the desired or optimal result. In most cases, Orthopaedic Surgeons ensure that their clients have received a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment and course of treatment before other interventions or surgery are contemplated. This is called pre -op rehabilitation and includes specific strength programs and manual therapies to prepare the joint involved to sustain the surgical procedure and recover faster. At Absolute we have a purpose built gym to provide the perfect facility from which to to do this alongside experienced Physios to deliver specific programmes.

The benefits of pre-rehabilitation are:

  • Increase strength and range of movement

  • Improve balance, endurance and joint stability

Post op Rehabilitation:

A major part of the successful outcome following surgical procedures is good physiotherapy treatment concentrating on:

Phase 1 : aiming  to reduce the post-surgery symptoms such as swelling, inflammation, pain and loss of movements.

Phase 2 helping  to restore muscle strength and walking abilities.

Phase 3 is about exercise progression in order to remove walking aids and improve stability.

Phase 4 is the return to ‘normality’. In this phase, we work on specific goals to help the patient to return to an active lifestyle, pain-free without risks of recurrence. Deciding when you are ready to return to normal sporting activities is often the biggest challenge. When the time is right, our expert clinicians will be able to take your through a “return to sport” testing criteria using evidence-based methods to ensure you get back to doing what you enjoy most without compromising on performance or risking re-injury.

The benefits of post-surgical physiotherapy are:

  • Effective pain management

  • Increase muscle power and joint movements

  • Improve balance, endurance and stability

  • Increase postural strength and avoid injury recurrence

Absolute  Physio will be able to guide you through these stages of rehabilitation within our purpose built gym. We can assist in monitoring your progress, setting your goals, and providing appropriate treatment to maximise your recovery potential. Absolute Physio can also inform you of how you can help your own recovery, and what should be avoided. You will be provided a specific rehabilitation program, and we aim to back to your full levels of activity and/or sport as quickly as possible.
