Physiological Testing
What is physiological testing?
Physiological testing involves the use of technology to evaluate your metabolic, respiratory and cardiovascular health and fitness. As part of this process, I utilise metabolic testing (the measurement of gases), spirometry (measurement of lung capacity) and near infrared spectroscopy (measurement of oxygen delivery and utilisation at the muscle). By employing these technologies, I have access to all the information necessary to design exercise and nutrition programming best suited to your physiological status and goals.
Why is physiological testing important to you?
Metabolic testing is the gold standard measurement for metabolic and cardiorespiratory health and fitness. Testing consists of a resting and an active test. The resting test is the most accurate method to determine your metabolic rate (how many calories you burn per day as well as well how well you burn fat at rest). This is vital for designing individualised nutrition plans.
The active test (often referred to as a VO2max test) is a 9-12 minute test of gradually increasing intensities. Testing is designed specifically for each individual based upon their capabilities and employing their usual exercise modality (e.g., walking, running, cycling etc.). The VO2max is a key predictor of longevity – your likelihood of a long and healthy life. The information gleaned from the active test allows me to best design your nutrition and exercise plans to effectively and efficiently influence your physiology and achieve your goals.
Is physiological testing appropriate for me?
Physiological testing is vital to those diagnosed with medical conditions like metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, asthma, COPD, or cardiac conditions, those on medications (e.g., for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, insulin or puffers) as well as the general population and athletes. Essentially, if you are a human being, you would benefit from physiological testing.
Why be tested here?
Daniel is a registered clinical exercise physiologist with over 25 years of experience in physiological testing, analysis and programming. He has taught physiology at university and has trained hundreds of others to complete accurate testing internationally. Daniel employs state of art technology including the use of multiple devices to ensure accurate analysis of your health and fitness.
What can I expect?
Within days of the completion of your initial testing session (approximately 1.5 hours), you will receive a thorough multi-page report including your exercise intensity zones, followed up with a 40-minute live video analysis of your results, as well as receive nutrition and exercise programming recommendations. This review will form the basis of your training and nutrition for the next 12 weeks. Retesting will allow us to reset your zones and reprioritise your exercise training plan.
Physiological testing is the best investment you can make in yourself and for your loved ones.
