Jemma qualified as a chartered Physiotherapist in July 2004 from Birmingham University. She worked for the NHS at the Royal Preston Hospital for three years where she worked alongside leading spinal surgeons, lower Limb and shoulder specialists gaining valuable experience in acute and chronic musculoskeletal and orthopaedic problems. During this time, she also worked for a private sports injury clinic where she furthered her knowledge and skills in sports injury assessment, treatment and prevention. In 2007 she moved back to her hometown of Penrith where she continued to work as a Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist for the NHS. Jemma took over a private clinic in Penrith in 2007 before taking a break to start a family in 2009. In 2013 she set up Absolute Physiotherapy alongside two colleagues from the NHS who are still involved today she continued to work for the NHS part time within GP practices providing extended scope services. In 2017 Jemma left the NHS so she could concentrate fully at developing Absolute Physiotherapy with her husband strengthening their private practice.
Since qualifying Jemma has undertaken extensive postgraduate study gaining a diploma in orthopaedic medicine and injection therapy. She holds certificates in acupuncture, clinical pilates, biomechanics of the lower limb, orthotics, ergonomics, Stick Mobility, Strength and conditioning for physiotherapists and dynamic taping. Currently she is studying towards a qualification in clinical biomechanics. She has a specialist interest in biomechanics and the lower limb and gait analysis and has collaborated with a specialised Musculoskeletal Podiatrist to form a multidisciplinary service called PhysioPod, providing gold standard service for complex lower limb conditions click here to learn more
Outside of work Jemma has a long history of running and squash. She regularly tries to get out in the Lakes running on the fells and has set up a ladies squash night to try and encourage more female participation in the sport of squash. She has three boys who are all sporty and can be often seen on the sidelines cheering them on!
